Following on from the release of their critically acclaimed debut EP ‘Slow’, French duo Saavan have today revealed their latest single ‘Young Minds’, taken from their forthcoming sophomore EP ‘Observatory’ – out November 29.

‘Young Minds’ is a beautifully arranged piece of brooding electronica, taking cues from contemporaries Foals, alt-J and Bonobo. The track opens with foreboding church bells and earthy rustling samples, before introducing the duo’s building harmonised vocals. Expansive soundscapes explode through the choruses, mixing sliding guitar runs and plucked string compositions.

Saavan talks about the inspiration behind ‘Young Minds’: “This is an observation of how the masses are dealing with a higher power, and how the rulers know how to handle them: without fighting back but misleading everyone. It was written at a time of protests and riots in Paris and all over the country, the atmosphere was pretty special, and something seemed to be happening. Then, a football competition started, and that was the end of the revolution.”

Saavan have performed extensively across France, collaborating and touring alongside the likes of Petit Biscuit, Fakear, Møme and Marian Hill. Their releases have garnered over 13.5 million plays on Spotify and 3.7 million views across YouTube. The duo are currently working on a five-record project between 2019 and 2021, to unleash its unique story around their clear vision: make people change their view of the world.

Saavan is composed of artists Lucas Mokrani and Claire Lengaigne, with each also working outside music. Lucas is a film director under the moniker MESKA, working on music videos for the likes of Odesza, while Claire spends time as a physiotherapist.

SAAVAN want to invite people into their observatory, to open the doors of perception.

‘Young Minds’ will be available worldwide on Friday November 15.
