Bay Area collective Peach Tree Rascals return with their fourth single of the year “Mango.” While the group steers through the sonic waters of alt-jazz, funk, pop, hip-hop, and R&B, they’re truly unbound by any genre. “Mango” is the idyllic representation of genre-less music as the five-piece unit has crafted a polished, multi-layered effort brimming with feel-good melodies. Still, underneath its enticing sonic accents is a sentimental exploration of the polarity between stark reality and aspiring dreams.

    STREAM “MANGO“

Peach Tree Rascals reveals this: “‘Mango’ is about creating positive thoughts even on the worst of days. We live in a world where the pressure put on us to do something we don’t want is too common. We want this song to be a reminder to people that this is your world and you are the author of your own story. The song is about escaping from the negative things happening in the world and reminding us that its optimism and happiness that drives us forward. ‘Mango’ captures the true essence of what PTR is all about.”

    WATCH “MANGO”

Mango” is complemented by its music video that was directed by Jorge Olazaba over a 3-day period in Santa Cruz. The clip zips through a flurry of colors, hues, and camera work symbolizing a carefree day for the guys of PTR. In several shots hand-drawn animations are layered over the vibrant visuals awakening yesterday’s thoughts through a sense of nostalgia and innocence.

Of the “Mango” music video, creative director Jorge Olazaba says: “I had chosen this location for its vivid colors and overall carefree environment that Santa Cruz represents. As for the random little hand-drawn animations found throughout the video, it looks almost like a little kid started drawing all over his homework. I love that feeling of nostalgia and innocence that it gives off. I wanted the video to be lighthearted, imaginative, and a stress reliever for those viewing it and be as happy as we were making it.”

“Mango” follows earlier summer singles + music videos “Mariposa” and “Summa.” “Mariposa,” which means butterfly in Spanish, is about shedding your skin, flawed and all, and like a caterpillar, amending into the being you were meant to be. “Summa” is an upbeat, carefree bop capturing the freedom of summer and chaos of disenchanted youth. The tracks have garnered strong praise from Billboard, FLAUNT, The Line of Best Fit, This Song Is Sick, ELEVATOR, Remezcla, Ones To Watch, and more.
