Experimental electronic artist DJ ST THOMAS (Pedi Hashemian) arrives today with a new single PAUL JOSHUA PFEIFFER, the third track from his forthcoming debut EP MATRIMONY. The Brooklyn-based musician expands upon his previous laid-back, chillwave efforts with a danceable, lighthearted affair. “PJP” is a coalescence of groovy guitar work and funky head-bobbing beats that propels DJ ST THOMAS repertoire into a lusher experimental soundscape.

The title PAUL JOSHUA PFEIFFER is a nod to the character from the late 80s/early 90s television series “The Wonder Years.” In the show, Paul Joshua Pfeiffer is best friends with protagonist Kevin Arnold and they outgrow their relationship when Paul heads for college and the show ends. The character through the course of the show grew up and out of his adolescent years, a coming of age story that DJ ST THOMAS felt a deep connection to as he was writing the MATRIMONY EP and growing up through his songwriting.

DJ ST THOMAS says this of PAUL JOSHUA PFEIFFER, “The idea for ‘PJP’ came up when I felt like my relationship with making music was ending. I used to get so excited about making music, but while writing this EP I reached a point where it almost felt as if music was giving up on me. ‘PJP’ is meant to highlight the different phases (honeymoon, plateau, uncertainty, death & longing) of my connection to writing music while feeling like that relationship is reaching an expiration date.”

PAUL JOSHUA PFEIFFER follows DJ ST THOMAS’ summer released singles “FODDER” and “323” along with itsmusic video. On “FODDER,” he blended buoyant, abstract cadences with tropical accents while exploring the complexities of love–from finding it and having it, to temporarily misplacing it. As for “323,” the fuzzed-out endeavor stretched toward the depths of chillwave and soulful dance accents whilst thematically providing commentary on the vapid culture of Los Angeles witnessed through a week-long trip. The “323” music video was directed by DJ ST THOMAS and James Rönkkö and produced by Alicé Agrusa as an ALTABREA project (a production company based in NYC). All three singles will be included on his debut EP MATRIMONY, out on November 8th.
