Plastic Picnic Shares synth-rock single ‘After You’

Brooklyn-based quartet Plastic Picnic’s music shares sharp reflections on the intricacies of life. Originally having roots in the Pacific Northwest, vocalist/guitarist Emile Panerio, guitarist Lincoln Lute, drummer Gordon Taylor, and bassist Marshall Hunt craft music that seamlessly blends spirited 80’s pop, celestial synths, and invigorating indie rock.

Today, Plastic Picnic shares “After You,” the first single off their sophomore EP Vistalite out July 19th. Crafted with the help of Sub Pop staple and producer Trevor Spencer (Father John Misty, Fleet Foxes), Vistalite pays homage to Plastic Picnic’s origins in the Pacific Northwest.

At the crossroads of dreamy synth-pop, warm guitar-driven rock, and thoughtful songwriting, “After You” embraces a developed soundscape for the quartet. Compared to songs found on their 2017 self-titled debut EP, there’s an exponential leap not only in sonic direction, but also in lyrical exploration of more mature ideas.

Regarding the new single, the band explains,“’After You’ alternates between hope and crippling fear of change. It’s a song about seeing the road you’re on while also looking out at the paths or exits spread before you. It embraces the exhilaration of leaning into the unknown and asking yourself if you should take that leap.”

Since forming in 2016, Plastic Picnic has garnered official showcases at South by Southwest, song placements on hit TV shows “Homeland” and “Shameless,” and over 150,000 average monthly listeners on Spotify. Their debut EP has over 5 million streams since its release in October 2017. Earlier in the year, the band shared the stand-alone single “Well Wasted.”

Plastic Picnic will release Vistalite on July 19th. The EP vinyl is available for pre-order now and includes the vinyl exclusive “Golden Days.”
