Remember The Chainsmokers Featuring Halsey’s 2016 Pop megahit, “Closer”? It contained some pretty cool song arrangement tangoing between the track’s two featured voices. It’s one of those songs that herald all who hear it with a Millennial Zeitgeist, that nuances a ‘lift off up the charts’ tatt scripted all over it. That’s what it felt like listening to Vicetone featuring Daisy Guttridge’s latest Pop/Dance Single release, “Waiting.”

Vicetone, like The Chainsmokers, are composed of two DJ Producers, but in this case, they’re Dutch bred Ruben den Boer and Victor Pool. The duo began around 2012 performing as a DJ set act, and soon after that, they began releasing their own singles and remixes. Since then, they’ve been voted into the DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs, and they’ve also upped those rankings to an impressive 36th out of all DJ acts around the globe. They have an elongated list of over 34 Single releases and over 32 Remixes which include production collaborations with The Weeknd featuring Daft Punk, Dua Lipa, and Steve Aoki. Vicetone’s singles and remixes can be streamed on Apple Music, Soundcloud, Spotify, and YouTube Music.

A pensively painting piano prefaces “Waiting” and is illustratively elicited by Guttridge’s vocals about a couple’s amorous vocation that’s being pained by patience. Guttridge goes in first, signaling seductive strife with, “I know it’s been a while since I called you…/ its been months since I tried to…/ My apartments been shaking, / from the weight of my heartbreaking… / it’s killing me.” The exchange is returned with, “I know it ain’t my business. / ‘Cause I’m the one who asked for the distance. / But are you alone? / Are you alright?… / Hope you still love me. / It feels like you don’t, / but I’m scared that I’m right…” The lyrics evolve “Waiting” with some truly lit songwriting & singing, laced over a balanced balladic backdrop of Pop & EDM.

If you got into “Closer” by the Chainsmokers, you’ll very likely be entertained by Vicetone’s work on “Waiting.” There are a lot of reasons why; The arrangement, the production, and the overall sonic temperature of “Waiting” brims like one of those songs that fits in perfectly with the feels that typically simmer Summer romance.

Vicetone’s “Waiting” also reveals that there’s still time left for Pop to enjoy its mashups with EDM. There’s nothing like being a part of those DJ set concerts and combine that essence with romance, you kinda can’t lose. I applaud Vicetone for both seeing the magic in it and creating from it. Do your summer a favor, don’t ‘wait’ too long before you placate a certain someone this Summer with this Vicetone Pop/Dance single, “Waiting.”
