Sam Sparro recently shared the lush, gorgeous and soulful “Outside the Blue” featuring Prince-approved powerhouse twin sister duo We Are KING (formerly KING)–the first taste of an upcoming album due in early 2020. Today, the Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and producer has released a new maxi single for the track noting, “My new project is a tribute to the era of maxi singles, cassingles and 12″ records. I wanted that to be reflected in the releases so I’ve included an (almost) a cappella version of the song and the instrumental version. As a record collector I always love finding vinyl that has all those extra versions on the B-side.”

The maxi single also features a new remix from LA-based producer and DJ Knights of Zion, whose monthly LA dance party called Nebula carries the spirit of the Ballroom scene he grew up in and is influenced by the likes of Paradise Garage and Studio 54. “I wanted to keep the dreamy atmospheric vibe of the original but give it a bit of an ‘Afro-House’ feeling. I was inspired by the Masters at Work 12″ remixes of the 90s–they were always long as hell and took you on a journey,” notes Zion. The song is also a love song and the remix is a fitting one, as Zion is also Sparro’s husband.
