Vancouver sisters Elle and Avery O’Brien, aka Harlequin Gold, released their debut EP, Baby Blue, today, announcing a hometown Vancouver celebration, November 29 at The Wise Hall, preceded by their U.S. debut performances, November 22 in Seattle + 23 in Portland (details below).  Harlequin Gold made their Australian debut earlier this month at the Big Sound Festival returning home to perform during the Westward Music Festival supporting Lissie.

A few years ago Elle and Avery were living very different lives, separated by thousands of miles – Avery travelling abroad, exploring and working across Asia and Australia, and Elle living in Vancouver after getting a degree in Microbiology.  The sisters were brought back together by a family tragedy, a serious motorbike accident leaving their brother in a coma.  After months of uncertainty were relieved by news of an expected recovery, their shared fear and pain had shaken their world and left them unsure where to go next. But it also brought them closer together. It was during this time of reflection and introspection that Elle and Avery decided to pursue their passion for music together.

In just a short time Harlequin Gold have made an impression upon the Vancouver music scene, releasing a string of singles in the past year.  Joined by producer/guitarist Justice McLellan (Blue J/Mesa Luna) and drummer Jamison Ko, the quartet have been gigging regularly, making their Toronto debut in May during Canadian Music Week supporting Sunflower Bean.

Harlequin Gold was produced by McLellan, recruiting a dream team of Mark Needham (The Killers, Imagine Dragons), John Raham (Dan Mangan, Frazey Ford) and Stephen Marcussen (Paul McCartney, Band of Horses) to help realize the EP’s full potential.
