After announcing her forthcoming debut album the masquerade, mxmtoon returns with new single “seasonal depression,” a track that sees her tackling a complex issue with charm and honesty, all within the confines of a 3 minute song.

She refers to her songwriting as “rhyming diary entries,” and it’s this personal insight into her life and experiences that has built a remarkable bond between her and her fans. Watch the video for “seasonal depression” here + buy and stream here.

“seasonal depression” builds around mxmtoon’s crystal-clear vocals until drums, piano and strings enter the track. It is a sound that manages to be both personal and expansive, showing a clear development of mxmtoon’s songwriting talent.

mxmtoon tells us “’seasonal depression’ was born to fill this gap I found in music, and create something wonderful. I adore that a song written so gloom and doom can sound like the sunniest musical number of a summer movie. My hope with the song is to provide affirmation to those who find facing certain days beyond difficult, but to simultaneously uplift them from their stormy thoughts. Music can provide comedy, validation, and insight, and I feel strongly “seasonal depression” hits all three wonderfully.”

mxmtoon is a 19-year-old bourgeoning artist who soared to new heights in 2018, bringing her folk-enriched style to life in the plum blossom EP. This year she returned with the achingly gorgeous new singles “prom dress” and “high & dry” which encapsulated her knack for merging unbridled honesty with a warm and heartfelt sound. “prom dress” has now reached over 8 million streams on spotify alone and she has over 150 million cumulative steams to date.

Over the course of her career so far mxmtoon has gathered a strong online following, amassing over 254K Instagram followers, 732K followers on TikTok and over 2M monthly listeners on Spotify while also completely selling out her US March 2019 tour. She is set to support Cavetown across a run of UK shows this winter and play a one-off headline show at London’s Camden Assembly.
