KITTEN RELEASES NEW TRACK + VIDEO “MEMPHIS”

Power-pop rock band KITTEN, fronted by Chloe Chaidez, have just released their stunning new single and music video “Memphis.” The music video, shot at the band’s house in LA, is the directorial debut of photographer Tsarina Merrin. With an unfussy, cinematic touch, Merrin lets memories flicker between the cracks, anxiety lurks around the edges, and shows that home is often a person (or people), not a place. Listen to the track on The FADER HERE and watch the music video on PAPER HERE.

As a loping bass groove erupts into wave of violin, shoegaze-guitars, and dial-up-modems, Chaidez chants her cubist love story with prayer-like intimacy. KITTEN’s palette of sounds and influences remains broad, but “Memphis” displays a newfound clarity in the band’s production. “‘Memphis’ came about after a year of touring, switching coasts back and forth, and solidifying the friendships in the band. It’s a song that questions the nature of home, and ultimately determines that it’s the people you love who give a place meaning,” states Chaidez about the track.

KITTEN will be bringing their ferocious live act to Hermosa Beach Summer Series on August 17. The FREE event includes a jam packed line-up, with performances by The Score, The Wrecks, and comedy by Jamie Kennedy. The band has previously shared the stage with the likes of Smashing Pumpkins, New Order, Girlpool, Hatchie, and Blue October. Stay tuned for more dates to come this fall.

If you’ve kept an eye on the underground pop scene for the last five years, you’ve probably come across the name KITTEN; but it’s only recently that the 24-year-old has hit her stride as a songwriter and frontwoman. Last year’s Pink Champagne EP ushered in a new era for the group. Its songs, at once neurotic and euphoric, earned praise from Rolling Stone, Stereogum, PAPER, The Fader, i-D, MTV, Nylon, and Idolator.

After a year of touring, the band landed in Los Angeles, where they immersed themselves in a vibrant music scene and worked with everyone from groundbreaking newcomer Dorian Electra to Smashing Pumpkins’ James Iha. At the same time, Chaidez immersed herself in Nasty Cherry, a new project created by pop luminary Charli XCX. Writing and collaborating with Charli proved an invaluable learning experience, and left Chaidez eager push her own musical boundaries.

“Memphis” is the first taste of the Honeymoon Phase EP, out this October via RED MUSIC. This Fall marks the rise of KITTEN, so don’t snooze.
