London’s hotly tipped Luca Wilding returns with the spellbinding new folk-pop track, “Ruby, Don’t Cry” – out today via Abbey Records.

Contemplating the sadness of an unknown muse, Luca Wilding’s gorgeous falsetto laments doomed lovers on his brand-new single, “Ruby, Don’t Cry.” Through poetic mediations of melancholy and heartbreak, his unique and inspiring ‘dream-folk’ imagines a tragic tale of a woman’s shackled beauty, desperate to break free from darker days.

Luca Wilding: “Some time ago, I met a girl on a train. We spoke for a little while, she sketched in my notepad and over a brief journey told my friend that she was unhappy. There was something very singular and strong about her, something leonine. I just couldn’t imagine her wasting away with no direction in a loveless relationship. That night, I imagined her being swept off her feet by a beautiful stranger and telling her partner she was leaving him. The defiance in her face, the sadness in his. The thing I love most about this song is I have no idea who this person is, and I probably never will. I imagined this world of liberation for her, in which strength and inner beauty are rewarded with freedom.”

Raised in the grey anywhere of Greater London, Luca never played an instrument in his youth. It was a family tradition of gunslinger ballads and time-old story-singalongs, and his eventual love for Leonard Cohen, that spurred him to begin song writing. Inspired later by a mixtape gifted to him by his supportive schoolteacher, he set out to achieve his ambition.

Signed to Abbey Records in 2019, his previous two singles, ‘Johanna’ and ‘Heartachers’ have garnered praise from fans and critics alike. His debut track, ‘Heartachers’ was premiered by US site Atwood Magazine, and was accompanied by a stunning short film, premiered by Wonderland Magazine. Made by award-winning filmmaker Patrick Fileti, it’s a powerful piece of film that coincides beautifully with Luca’s song.

“Ruby, Don’t Cry” is taken from Luca’s debut EP – expected November 27th – more details coming soon.
