Bastion Rose returns with “Supernatural,” a dark new single that explores the ways people use supernatural beliefs to confront the fear of the unknown. The track serves as the final advance single before the band releases its upcoming album, Blue Rising, on January 15.
With millions of catalog streams, Bastion Rose continues to build a heavy sound rooted in precision and aggression while balancing the vulnerability and atmosphere that have become part of the band’s identity.
“Supernatural” pairs ritualistic imagery with the band’s progressive rhythmic approach, adding slide guitar, banjo, harmonica, and ghostly vocal harmonies to the mix.
“The song carries this inherent creepiness because it deals with what terrifies us most,” the band says. “We surround ourselves with myths, prayers, and superstitions because the alternative—that we are nothing more than matter, destined to decay—is an unsettling possibility to face. The song is a look at how we use the supernatural as a ward against our own mortality.”
While Blue Rising prepares for its January release, Bastion Rose is already back in the studio with three-time Grammy-winning producer David Bottrill, known for work with Tool, Godsmack, Mastodon, Coheed and Cambria, Muse, Peter Gabriel, and Rush.
