Swiss Singer-Songwriter Jaël Unveils Heartfelt & Personal Album ‘Midlife’

After the 2nd season of «Sing meinen Song», the fulminant-touching orchestral album «Sinfonia», an extremely successful family album “Sensibeli”, a plethora of sold-out concerts honored with standing ovations, Jaël just released a third solo album Mildlife, with a tour starting in Spring 2023.

Midlife is a touching reflection of her personal life journey: The insight of not always having to be perfect as a working mother of two, as sung about in the light-footed «Only human», or the pearly soundtrack «Untouched by grey and rain» matching a road trip, which tells of strong women in challenging situations.

And with «Iitii» Jaël releases for the first time a song of her own in Swiss-German, which aptly describes being different in principle and not quite fitting into a society as neurosensitive. In the psychedelic song «Paralyzed» Jaël takes all her courage to sing about a topic that has been kept quiet until now: sexual assault and the associated fear rigidity that prevents one from saying «no» at the right moment, to defend oneself or simply to run away…

With «To miss you», Jaël has for the first time since the breakup of her band Lunik, again written a song with her former band co-founder and producer Luk Zimmermann: Nostalgia!

The double album, produced by Cyril Camenzind, contains many new songs, exclusive photos, personal thoughts and a b-side with live recordings from the last tour.

As always, a musical treat awaits the audience: Jaël’s warm, melancholic voice, wrapped in fragile piano ballads or driving guitar songs, polyphonic vocals that get under your skin, enriched with dabs of xylophone and kalimba.

The songs specially arranged for the tour live from the intimate interpretation in a small line-up, as can be heard impressively in the example of «Driving with you», which has been streamed on Spotify well over 4 million times so far. The seated concerts promise soulful-fragile as well as epic-powerful moments with a lot of pleasure.

Overall, Midlife is Jaël’s most comprehensive work to date, an analyzing retrospection mostly written during Covid, where she shares all the important scenes of her life.

“Musically, after 25 years of career, I have finally managed to embed all my musical influences into my personal Jaël sound. There is sweetness, things that hurt, hope on that album. And over all hovers the melancholy that has always dominated my songs and my voice.” – Jaël
