After opening for Judah & The Lion at The Anthem, DC indie rockers The Colonies announced they will be releasing their new single “Potomac” on November 1st. The band’s sound has been described as “hooky indie rock with contagious charm” from acclaimed blogs such as Obscure Sound and they have an impressive performance history including opening for Judah & The Lion, St. Lucia, Shaed, The Unlikely Candidates and more.

Potomac is a reflective track for the Fall season featuring a driving rhythm guitar riff, emotional lyrics, tight percussion and atmospheric lead guitar. Its influences are indebted to a blend of garage rock and indie pop similar to bands from the early 2000s. The track is the band’s first since adding lead guitarist Jarrod Hendricks who joined in July. Potomac reflects on the failure of a past relationship and the lessons learned to win the significant other back. The emotional lyrics paired with the moody atmosphere allow Potomac to truly be a breakthrough point for the band showing their growth and maturation.

From playing their first show in the basement of the dorm, Thurston Hall, The Colonies have been on a path towards success. The band featuring Pete Stevens on vocals and rhythm guitar, Joey Mamlin on drums and Jarrod Hendricks on lead guitar have put out 3 albums and opened for impressive artists. Potomac is another important step along their musical journey.
