LOYAL LOBOS DEBUTS NEW SINGLE “CRIMINALS”

Colombia-born, Los Angeles-based Loyal Lobos (aka singer-songwriter Andrea Silva) premiered her new single “Criminals” via The FADER.

Silva says the track is “a love song to a friend. A platonic friendship with many undertones. It’s about danger, fun, love, sadness, and sisterhood. The complexities of a woman and a friendship between two. It is my song to Sam.” Listen to “Criminals”—which The FADER calls “a warm, dreamy song about platonic love… pensive and touching.” Loyal Lobos also today announced a handful of West Coast shows in September supporting Girl Ultra, including LA’s Regent Theater on September 17th. See below for a full itinerary of upcoming shows.

As Loyal Lobos, Silva mines memories of a childhood growing up in the countryside of the Colombian capital, Bogotá, and her experiences as a young adult in LA to create poetic, painterly music that makes sweeping allusions to love, sexuality, and femininity. She moved to LA at age 18 to pursue her dream and there, Loyal Lobos was born. After performing in numerous bands and experimenting with different sounds, she found the essence of her solo sound and in 2016 wrote the music that would become her first EP, The Fall.

In the aftermath of failed relationships, and while sofa surfing and seeking solace, Silva began to write songs that depict love and heartbreak but refuse to slip into the inertia of all-consuming sadness. The resultant tracks are laced with harmonic and textural details that help to underscore a far-reaching and complex sense of loss, reflection, and recovery. “I enjoy feeling sad as much as feeling happy,” explains Silva. “People forget that being sad is so important, we just neglect it. It strips you naked and you lose your ego, and that’s when you are faced with reality. Almost all of my songs are a snapshot of a meaningful period in my life.”

In a fateful LA turn of events, Silva and her producer/close musical collaborator Evan Voytas began recording her new songs at the studio of acclaimed producer and songwriter Teddy Geiger (Shawn Mendes, Lizzo, Leon Bridges), who immediately fell in love with the project and stepped in as executive producer for the sessions. The auspicious single “Criminals” is the first taste of what’s to come.
