On July 26, 2019, rising Baltimore-based R&B/Pop artist Janelle de la Rosa boldly released her second single, “Make Up Your Mind” on all digital platforms. It’s a short, upbeat number with echoing drums and equal parts club-ready hype and outspoken emotionality.
After establishing her roots in local acoustic cover performances, Janelle de la Rosa found her “lane” in the space between R&B and modern pop, and she offers a unique blend of the two genres. Through the course of her eight year career in Baltimore, she has appeared on WMAR’s Midday Maryland local lifestyle show, written and performed the anthem “Share the Love” for Visit Baltimore’s #MyBmore social media campaign, opened for The Voice Season 15 finalist Funsho, and worked with acclaimed producer Terrence “T-Low” Brown from the multi-platinum R&B group N.E.X.T.
Not only did Janelle de la Rosa write and perform this fierce, feminine anthem, but she also produced and mixed “Make Up Your Mind” in its entirety. As an unsigned, independent, self-managed artist, she makes all her own rules and music straight from her home studio in Baltimore, MD. With a combined social media following of over 100,000, this release marks the second installment of a new chapter in her already well-established career as an artist, and is one many monthly music and video releases this year.
A single like “Make Up Your Mind” tells audiences that Janelle de la Rosa isn’t afraid to say exactly how she’s feeling. Her lyrics showcase her courageous transparency in life and love, and serve as an example for her listeners. At the end of the day, she strives to be the most authentic version of herself, while urging others to do the same. It’s clear that this is just the beginning of her journey to making her dreams a reality. And, just like she’s always wanted Janelle de la Rosa does it on her own terms.
