On November 8, Girl Ray will release their second album Girl (Moshi Moshi) and today they share their expertly crafted new pop single, the opening and title-track from the London band’s upcoming LP. The accompanying video, directed by Crusoe Weston, sees the three-piece drive along the English coastline in a vintage convertible enjoying those British summer vibes.

Poppy Hankin said the following about “Girl”: “Well what’s it about? An intense crush where you lose all reasonable brain thoughts and can’t conceive why the hell things shouldn’t work out in rom-com style perfection. This one is for you to roll the windows down to on those hot hot hot summer days. Blast it loud blast it proud.” Watch / share the video for “Girl”:

If their debut, Earl Grey, was a hot cup of tea and a cuddle on the sofa, Girl is being in a cab with the windows down on the way to a beach bar for sundowners. It’s the excitement of Rihanna’s If It’s Lovin’ That You Want, combined with the eye-rolling, impenetrable sardonic humour of a girl gang. Among the grin-inducing, trepidatious and intensely courageous R&B-style tracks on the album, are also beautifully composed piano ballads steeped in the sadness and unrequited love that made Earl Grey feel like a knowing look from an old friend.
