Austrian songwriter/producer filous returns today with the music video for “Monday” featuring LA singer-songwriter Ashe (who’s been featured on records by Whethan, Louis the Child and toured with LAUV, QUINN XCII). With playful plucked guitar melodies, earnest lyrics, and an easy-paced four-on-the-floor beat, the track conveys a youthful, starry-eyed optimism about new love.
The comedic video directed by Tobias Pichler finds Percy (filous) donning his best Austrian 70’s attire and a persistent awkward smile in his video profile for an old-fashioned Austrian dating program. A self-described “musician and lover of gardencare,” he plays various instruments in scenic imperial gardens and a gnome-filled backyard around the district in Vienna where he (actually) grew up. The clip was shot on 16mm and inspired by a 70‘s Austrian TV show about finding new homes for lost pets. The phone number at the end is real and you can actually win a date with Percy.
filous says about the “Monday” video, “This is my favorite video we ever did for one of my songs. The director Tobias Pichler and I spent months together brainstorming ideas for the song as we really wanted to do something special for it. One day, Tobias sent me the treatment that ended up being the video. I absolutely loved the idea instantly. The only problem was it was 4 days before a video shoot we already scheduled for a completely different video idea. We ended up deciding to take the risk and go for the new concept, having to do the whole pre-production for the video in only a few days.
I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such incredibly talented people on this project and I am once more blown away by Tobias Pichler’s dedication and his precise creative vision. Hope you like the video as much as I do!”
“Monday” is filous’s second original release of 2019, following the bouncy, anthemic “All My Friends Are Rich” featuring South London singer Louis III. He’s also maintained his status as a go-to remixer with two buttery smooth remixes so far this year; “Nostalgic” by ARIZONA and “Floating” by Alina Baraz feat. Khalid, which have collectively garnered 8 million Spotify streams.
The 22-year-old wunderkind and full-fledged auteur (real name Matthias, nickname Percy) has always been something of an enigma, driven by an incessant curiosity and a need for discovery. First showcasing his unusually inquisitive mind at the tender age of 10 years old, he soon became proficient in dozens of instruments and started to immerse himself in far-flung influences ranging from progressive jazz to country, from bluegrass to black metal.
The concept of “filous” emerged once Matthias began experimenting with electronic production, teaching himself via Youtube tutorials with all of his earliest remixes built from artists he discovered on the streaming platform. As resourceful as he is talented, the young upstart has grown his unique global footprint to over 750 million combined YouTube, SoundCloud, and Spotify streams, thanks to 11+ Hype Machine No. 1s and his debut EP Dawn topping the iTunes electronic chart in more than 9 countries, including Switzerland, Austria, India and Russia.
